Rules

Page history last edited by Mina Eliot 10 years, 5 months ago

Fellow writers, we hope to spare you the humdrum of repetitive rules that should be common sense to writing. If anything that follow confuses you, you just want more information, or is written in a manner that is unclear, we want to hear about it please.

For those of you who are new to the Role Playing world, feel free to browse the following to freshen up:

http://www.grey-company.org/Circle/rpelf/etiquette.html   Credit goes fully to the creator of this site, we are merely putting up the link, but had no hand in the writing, ideas or anything found within.

Aside from those, here are the other things we like to see:

Main Rules

1.      Speak up!  Remember both mods are here to help you. We can always be reached through email at hm_ooc-owner@yahoogroups.com. If you have questions, critiques, think something was unfair, just want help plotting, anything, we are always available and willing to do whatever we can. However, remember we can’t help if you don’t reach out and let us know what’s going on.

2.      Each group member is expected to post at least once per week per character.  It can be a in a joint post or it can be an individual post. If you are JPing with someone else, we ask that you let the moderators know. Make sure that your post length is at least three good paragraphs long. This means 12-15 well thought out sentences so other writers have something to actually respond to. “She nod,” does not count as a full sentence. Inserting song lyrics into the post does not could as one of the paragraphs either.

3.      Post are to be written in third person, past tense.

4.      If you know you will be gone for any length of time you MUST send the moderators a message so we know what’s going on.  If got any reason you cannot get online to give us a heads up, you will be expected to give an explanation as soon as you return. If there is a long period of inactivity and no responses are made to our efforts to reach out and contact you, you will be removed from the game and we will be left with the decision of what happens to your characters. You will, of course, be welcome to rejoin. However, if your character(s) have been given away in your absence, you do not have any right to demand them back.

5.      There is a Three Strike Rule in place. This means is you will get a maximum of three warnings when it comes to breaking the rules. An official warning will come through email to let you know what the issue is, rather it be posting length, frequency, etc. On the third strike, we have the right to remove you from the group, possibly without explanation depending on the circumstance.  This does not mean breaking three different rules, just to be clear. It means after three warnings, especially if it’s over breaking the same rule, you can be removed from the group.

6.      All members interested in writing in the game MUST join the OOC group. The main group is only for actual role playing and only for active members with approved characters. Any conversations, questions, etc will be on the OOC group only. Do NOT, under any circumstance, post OOC messages on the game board. This includes inside your posts. If you need to comment, please do so on the OOC board since that Is why’s it’s here. Some people don’t read all ongoing threads, and won’t get a chance to see an OOC message tagged only in one post.

7.       Despite there being a link on the Wiki directly to the main group, unless you are already a member, you won't have access to the game. It's by invitation/approval only. DO NOT apply for membership on the main group unless you already have an approved character for the game. If you request membership to the main group/edit the wiki and haven't even bothered to pick up a character/join the OOC group, your membership will be instantly denied without further consideration.

8.      Nobody can put their membership settings at No Email on the OOC Board. Due to the fact that this is where we make major announcements from rule changes to plot, you need to be kept in the loop. That being said, we request that you keep your settings at least to Special Notices. On the main group, email setting must be at least to Daily Digest. In short, no email is NEVER an option.

9.      All new members to the OOC Board we be on moderated status. That means any posts must be approved before being shown on the group. It's nothing personal. We've merely had issues with some new members stirring up trouble while Sweeney and I have been unable to get online to intervene. Now we have this precautionary step.

10.  About the wiki: Please respect other player and do not alter their character's page without permission. Also, do not upload images directly to the wiki. Just link the image from another site like Photobucket. It's free, easy to use and even provides html code for easy pasting.

11.  The OOC group hosts a Council Meeting during the first week of every month. It’s a time where the mods will announce upcoming events, plot developments, recap any important issues that have come up, pacing, etc. It’s also a time for group members to speak up about ideas, concerns, etc on the board (though that is welcome at any time via private email as well). We do require all writers to participate, even if it’s just to comment on they’ve read everything. These updates are important to make sure everything is running smoothly.

12.  Unless stated otherwise, there will be a day change every first of the month. This is to help keep things moving in the group. For the first two weeks of the new month, back posting will be allowed so those who need to wrap up previous threads can. During that two weeks, ONLY, you may post for your character in two different threads: The back post thread and a thread for the new day. You will still be expected to meet your posting minimum of once per week, excluding the back posting thread.

13.  Rules are subject to change, though we will make every attempt to ensure the group is updated about any revisions.

Character Related Rules

14.  Due to the potentially adult themes in this game, we ask that all characters be at least 18 years old. Any character under that age will be assumed to be an NPC and treated as such.

15.  Characters requests should be sent in soon after joining the OOC group and need to be include either an audition for Cannon Characters or for Original Characters, a completed CIS (Character information sheet) along with a sample post using that character in a Buffy-verse setting.

16.  At this time crossover characters are NOT allowed.  This does including stealing character concepts from other shows such as your character having an amazingly fast healing ability and can produce claws from their knuckles.  Label the character what you want, it’s still Wolverine. There's inspiration, then there's stealing another universe's ideas so please remember to make your character realistic to the setting. This does include following all major verse established laws such as “One girl in all the world...”. Minus canon created exceptions, this rule stands firm meaning your character will not be the Slayer. We have Faith & Buffy. That's enough for now.

17.  We do accept deceased or yet to be characters from the Buffy verse, so long as you have a reason for them to exist in the present. IE- Eve who didn’t appear until Angel S5. Just give us a plausible explanation as to why this character is where they are now.

18.  Character profiles/auditions must be sent to both owners for consideration. This means each individual character you wish to play.  No exceptions. Characters MUST be approved before you may gain access to the main group where the posting takes place or access to the wiki for editing privileges. Please understand that just because we don't approve your OC (Original Character) immediately, it doesn't mean we're not looking forward to having them in the game. It just means there needs to be a little tweaking to make them fit into the verse well. Some considerations might include other active characters, how the OC will fit in with them, future plot points that may not have been revealed, or any number of things. We'll try our best to let you know what the issue is, give ample chances for a compromise to be reached.

19.  Currently we have a 3 character limit per writer, excluding characters being temped. If you take on too many characters at one time and we see that you are struggling to post, the moderators can step in and take away characters at our discretion, especially key Cannon Characters.

20.  Please be considerate of your Cannon character if you choose to adopt a member of the original cast. Don’t make any significant change to their power/back  story without letting a mod approve first.  Keep them in character to the best of your ability. While we do understand nobody is perfect, and sometimes people read character motivations differently, just be reasonable.

21.  If you leave the game without informing the moderators of what you’d like done with your characters, they become property of the group. As such, the moderators reserve the right to do with the characters as we see fit rather it’s offering them out for adoption, killing them off or simply writing them out of the game. This includes original characters.
